Pop-Up Shop

The Friends of Scotland organization opened a Pop-Up Shop for the first time in New York City in support of the Dressed to Kilt fashion show and for the commercial benefit of the designers participating in the show. The shop was opened for three weeks, including all of Tartan Week. Indeed, all of the new collections and designs that were seen on the runway were on display for one week following the show. Virtually all of the designers that were involved in this year’s show utilized the shop for their own commercial purposes by holding numerous private receptions and private meetings with the New York based fashion industry buyers.

Unfortunately on the busiest day of the fittings and stylings for DTK the water began pouring through the ceiling in the shop and it was so bad that the NYC Fire Department had to be called. In that great Scottish tradition of making lemonade from lemons, the quick thinking Katherine Brown, current Mss Scotland/Miss UK, immediately donned a Slanj mini-kilt and went out to make friends with the firemen. Please see the photos below. The Tartan car in the photos is from Mercedes Benz USA and each year they wrap one of their luxury vehicles in their own Tartan and lend it to the producers of DTK . These photos went all across North America in the days to follow. We understand that Katherine Brown has been inundated with calendar propositions from fire departments all across the United States.
